Poland and the UK are set to sign a defense agreement that identifies Russia as a direct threat

Poland and the United Kingdom have agreed to sign a new bilateral agreement on defense and security that clearly identifies Russia as the primary source of threat.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced this ahead of his visit to London to officially sign the document.

The head of the Polish government emphasized that the document begins by acknowledging Russia’s aggressive policy. According to him, Polish-British cooperation will henceforth be focused as much as possible on countering these security challenges. For Warsaw, this treaty will be the second most strategically significant after a similar agreement the country previously concluded with France.

The main practical goal of such bilateral alliances is to create a rapid response mechanism. Donald Tusk explained that in the event of a potential armed conflict, Warsaw is counting on immediate military assistance from London and Paris even before all 32 NATO member states complete lengthy political consultations, reach a consensus, and officially activate Article 5 of the Alliance’s Charter.

The Polish Prime Minister separately emphasized that such steps do not contradict the general concept of collective security:

  • Additional guarantees: The creation of a network of direct allied agreements is intended to ensure the country has reliable partners who are ready to act immediately without bureaucratic delays.

  • Preserving NATO’s architecture: The new agreement is not a replacement or alternative to the North Atlantic Alliance. Warsaw remains fully committed to transatlantic unity, but seeks to maintain the highest level of individual readiness for any crisis scenario.

Russia could attack Europe when China invades Taiwan, according to the NATO Secretary General.

Dictator Putin, ahead of a meeting with an American delegation comprising U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, stated that Russia is allegedly ready to go to war with Europe but has no such intention.

In the event of a Russian attack on NATO members, the Alliance could launch a preemptive strike against targets on Russian territory, according to NATO Military Committee Chairman Admiral Rob Bauer.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers it entirely possible that Russia could open a second front against another European country even before the war in Ukraine ends.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian army could attack a NATO member state within the next five years. This would test the Alliance’s resilience.
