Poland has closed the case regarding the destroyed building following the Russian drone attack

The Polish prosecutor’s office has closed the investigation into the destruction of a residential building in Wiryki, Lublin Province, during a massive attack by Russian drones on September 10, 2025.

The investigation determined that the building was not destroyed by a Russian drone. The explosion was caused by a missile fired by the Polish military while repelling the air attack.

The case was closed due to a lack of grounds for holding the military personnel criminally liable. The prosecutor’s office noted that the military personnel’s actions were consistent with their authority and official duties.

At the same time, the office emphasized that, formally, the incident may contain elements of a crime; however, criminal liability does not arise if a person acted, in particular, under conditions of necessity or extreme necessity, or was following an order.

The full results of the investigation have not yet been made public. The decision to close the case has not yet taken legal effect and has not been served on the parties.

The prosecutor’s office clarified that the explosion in the building was caused specifically by a rocket containing an explosive substance.
