Director and producer James Burrows, who was behind the creation of dozens of popular TV series, including “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory,” has died in the U.S. He was 85. American director and producer James Burrows has died at the age of 85, according to People magazine, citing his family. A statement released by the director’s family on June 19 said that he “passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.”

James Burrows was one of the most famous directors in American television. Over the course of his more than 50-year career, he directed over a thousand episodes of various television projects and helped make TV series popular that are now considered classics. Among Burrows’ most famous works are *The Mary Tyler Moore Show*, *Taxi*, *Cheers*, *Frasier*, *Friends*, and *The Big Bang Theory*.

He worked on many episodes of *Friends*, which, even a decade after its release, remains one of the most popular sitcoms in the world. Burroughs also helped create *The Big Bang Theory*, which became a major television hit in the 2000s. Over the course of his career, the director was nominated for an Emmy Award 46 times and won eleven awards.

The series “Taxi” and “Cheers” brought him particular success. He directed over 70 episodes of “Taxi” and received two Emmy Awards. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Easton, four daughters, and seven grandchildren. “He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family,” according to a statement from James Burrows’s loved ones.
