Despite the heavy shelling of Kuwait and Bahrain, Rubio claims that the war with Iran is over — NYT
On the night of June 3, Iran launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kuwait and Bahrain, threatening the current ceasefire.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio promptly reaffirmed the Trump administration’s commitment to ending this war, despite the serious escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
Tehran’s latest attack was one of the most intense operations against Gulf states since early April, when the ceasefire agreement took effect.
According to Kuwaiti officials, the country’s only international airport, “Terminal 1,” was hit.
As a result of the strike, which was captured by surveillance cameras as a burning hole in the building’s roof, one Indian citizen residing in Kuwait was killed, and at least 63 people were injured.
In total, the Iranian military used 13 ballistic missiles and 17 attack drones for this attack.
U.S. forces were previously stationed at this airport complex, but it is currently unclear whether their logistical infrastructure remained there and whether it was the enemy’s primary target.
Civilian air traffic in Kuwait has now been partially restored via another operational terminal.
Tehran traditionally targets key oil exporters and regional trade hubs in an effort to increase economic pressure on the White House.
In this way, Iranian authorities are attempting to punish neighboring countries for hosting U.S. military bases, while negotiations on safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz remain fruitless.
Washington and Tehran have already exchanged mutual official accusations over this tragic incident at the airport.
Representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that they did not target a civilian facility, and that the damage was caused by a technical malfunction of the U.S. Patriot systems, whose anti-missile missiles allegedly fell on the terminal.
The U.S. military command called this version completely false, accusing Iran of a deliberate combined strike on the airport.
The New York Times reports on this.
Trump claimed he saved Israel from destruction
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Americans has dropped to nearly its lowest point since his return to the White House.
At the same time, Trump once again repeated the threats he has been making in recent weeks: “If they agree, it’s over, and if not—we’ll bomb them.”
Official Tehran refused to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States, which were to take place in Islamabad.
