In Liling, in China’s central Hunan Province, porcelain with underglaze multicolored decoration is exported to more than 150 countries and regions. The products have also repeatedly been presented as diplomatic gifts, ECNS reports.
Underglaze decoration technology
Liling porcelain has a history of more than 2,000 years. Its distinctive feature is colored patterns protected by a layer of glaze, which, according to the outlet, makes the products more durable.
The production of some items involves nearly 100 manufacturing stages. Among the well-known products are wine sets that produce a sound similar to birdsong when wine is poured into them. They were first developed in 1972 for diplomatic events.

Industry scale
Liling’s porcelain industry includes more than 1,500 related companies and nearly 200,000 workers. They produce more than 4,000 types of household and artistic ceramics.
Household porcelain accounts for 11.7% of global production of these products. The industry also manufactures functional ceramics for the energy, electronics, aerospace, and automotive industries. Ceramic tourism attracts nearly 300,000 visitors annually.
