The Ukrainian ambassador named Petr Pavel the most popular politician in the Czech Republic
Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Zvarych stated that Czech President Petr Pavel is effectively the most popular politician in the country. He also noted that Pavel plays an important role in supporting Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Vasyl Zvarych spoke about this in an interview with Glavkom.
According to Zvarych, the president’s stance on supporting Ukraine enjoys broad support in Czech society and remains a key factor in shaping state policy. “President Pavel is, in fact, the most popular politician in the Czech Republic,” the diplomat emphasized.
Zvarych noted that despite the change in government and the complex political configuration following the parliamentary elections, a constructive dialogue continues between the president and the prime minister. They meet regularly and discuss both current and contentious issues. According to the ambassador, such interaction allows for the coordination of positions within the government, particularly regarding support for Ukraine.
President Pavel, as the diplomat emphasized, was a key initiator of the “ammunition initiative” for Ukraine, which remains one of the key areas of military aid.
Zvarych also noted that to date, none of the president’s initiatives has been effectively blocked. Ammunition supplies and other programs funded by international partners are continuing.
Separately, he commented on the situation regarding the potential transfer of Czech L-159 aircraft to Ukraine. According to him, the new government’s refusal to proceed with this step is a consequence of decisions made by the previous administration.
The diplomat explained that the negotiation process had effectively been halted even before the elections by the previous defense minister, so the government’s current position is a matter of inertia rather than a new policy.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Vasyl Zvarych also noted that the Czech Republic remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in the field of security and defense, in particular participating in international initiatives to support and modernize the Ukrainian army.
