US representatives meet Central Asian leaders during SCO summit — OilPrice
Trump administration special envoy Sergio Gor and Republican Senator Steve Daines held separate meetings in Bishkek on August 31 with the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The talks took place in parallel with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, OilPrice reports, citing Eurasianet.
According to the publication, the US representatives were not invited to SCO events and did not take part in them. Their meetings with the leaders of the three Central Asian states were held during the summit, whose participants adopted the Bishkek Declaration on September 1.
Statements by Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan
The press service of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said after the meeting that there was positive momentum in political dialogue with the United States, interparliamentary and interregional contacts, as well as an expansion of trade, economic and investment cooperation.
Uzbekistan also reported special attention to preparations for events in the C5+1 format and the next meeting of the US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council. C5+1 is a format for US economic and political cooperation with Central Asian states.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, who hosted the summit, stressed during the meeting with Gor and Daines the country’s interest in the C5+1 format. He also called for expanding the US-backed B5+1 platform to develop contacts between business representatives and public-private partnerships.
Bishkek Declaration
Participants in the SCO summit, including representatives of China, the Russian Federation — an aggressor state — and Iran, adopted a declaration criticizing US actions toward Iran. The document states that US actions violate the principles and norms of international law and the UN Charter, and also create serious risks to international peace, security and stability.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian promoted a plan at the summit to reduce the global economy’s dependence on the US dollar, the publication notes.
