Czech Prime Minister Apologized for Flowers Picked in a Nature Reserve

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš apologized after picking several flowers in a protected area while hiking up Lysá hora. The politician explained that he did so out of personal memories of a late colleague with whom he had previously climbed the mountain. Babiš also stated that he is prepared to pay a fine if it turns out that he broke the law.

The incident occurred while Andrej Babiš was hiking up Lysá hora. According to the prime minister, this was already his third hike to this peak. Babiš explained that he picked a few flowers because of memories of his late colleague from the ANO party. They had previously climbed Lysá hora together, so the place holds personal significance for him. “This was my third time there—I first went on July 15, 2016, more than 10 years ago—and I always remember that, which is why I picked a few flowers,” said the Czech prime minister.

However, the flowers were picked in an area designated as a nature reserve. This is precisely what prompted Babiš’s public reaction.

The Prime Minister Is Prepared to Pay a Fine

Following the criticism, the politician decided to apologize. He acknowledged that he may have violated the rules in effect within the protected area. “Perhaps I broke some law, for which I apologize,” Babiš said.

The prime minister also stated that he is prepared to face the consequences if the relevant authorities determine that a violation occurred. “Of course, if necessary, I will definitely pay the fine,” he added.

Andrej Babiš explained his position by citing personal memories, but at the same time acknowledged that the area’s special status does not override established rules. The story gained widespread attention precisely because it involves the country’s head of government. For the politician, the situation became an opportunity to publicly explain his actions and apologize for them. This is reported by iDnez.

In the Czech Republic, the Supreme Administrative Court rejected a complaint filed by a local resident who demanded the restoration of a monument to a Red Army soldier that had been destroyed by vandals in the city of Teplice.
