Greenland's Prime Minister Responded to Trump's Insult Against the Island

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen protested against remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who called the island a “poorly governed chunk of ice.” In response to this characterization, the head of the Greenlandic government emphasized that the country is home to a proud population of 57,000 people who respect their allies and adhere to international law.

He told Reuters about this.

The dispute arose following a post by Trump on Truth Social, in which he accused NATO of a lack of support during the conflict with Iran and stated that the rift within the Alliance began precisely over the issue of Greenland. The U.S. president described the island as a “large, poorly governed chunk of ice,” alluding to Washington’s longstanding intentions to acquire or strengthen control over this strategic territory. Nielsen, in turn, noted that it is critically important for Greenland to preserve the global security system established after World War II and called on all allies to unite to defend the international legal order.
