Iranian President Pezeshkian tells Putin a deal with the US is possible — Anadolu Agency

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the leader of the aggressor state, said that reaching an agreement with the United States is possible if Washington adheres to international law. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing a statement by the Iranian president.

Pakistan-mediated negotiations

Pezeshkian informed Putin about negotiations between Tehran and Washington, with Pakistan acting as a mediator. According to him, the main obstacles to a fair agreement are the United States' double standards and maximalist demands.

The Iranian president stated that Tehran is ready for a balanced and fair agreement that would ensure lasting peace and security in the region. He stressed that Iran's red line is the national interests and rights of the Iranian people.

Pezeshkian also called the Persian Gulf countries brotherly states for Iran and expressed regret over the use of US military bases in these countries for attacks on Iran. He said Tehran is ready to cooperate with neighboring countries to ensure regional peace and security without the involvement of external forces.

Moscow's position

Putin, according to the statement, confirmed support for diplomatic efforts toward a political settlement of the war and Moscow's readiness to assist in finding a diplomatic solution. He also stated the need to respect Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity and supported Tehran's demands for compensation for war-related damage and long-term security guarantees against new attacks.

The sides confirmed their intention to expand cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed by Iran and Russia in January 2025. The parties concluded a previous agreement between the United States and Iran to cease hostilities in June, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, but its implementation was halted due to disagreements, including over security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
