Lebanese President Aoun visits Nabatieh after Israel blows up fortifications
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made an unannounced visit to Nabatieh in southern Lebanon on September 12, located near the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the trip took place after the Israeli army seized a site on the ridge and blew up the underground fortifications located there.
Visit to Nabatieh
Lebanese state media reported that Aoun arrived in the city without prior announcement, accompanied by security service representatives. According to footage broadcast by Lebanese media, the president expressed solidarity with the local residents who welcomed him.
Aoun also praised the staff of Nabatieh Governmental Hospital. According to him, medical workers are risking their lives while providing assistance in an area that, the publication reported, has been left by most of its population.

Negotiations and strikes
Lebanon's National News Agency quoted Aoun as saying that there would be no new negotiations with Israel for now. He stressed that the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the return of prisoners and displaced persons, as well as reconstruction, remain Lebanon's national principles.
The previous day, a senior U.S. diplomatic official said that a new round of U.S.-mediated negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, initially scheduled for next week, had been postponed until October.
According to Asharq Al-Awsat, Israeli strikes in the Nabatieh area over the past few days have killed at least 29 people, including 12 members of one family. The Lebanese army, which has deployed in Nabatieh, warned on Wednesday that Israel's actions threaten the implementation of agreements on disarming Hezbollah, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese army in designated test zones.
