The President of Romania may nominate a former IMF official for the position of prime minister
Romanian President Nicușor Dan is considering Delia Velculescu as a candidate for the country’s prime minister.
This was reported by Antena 3, citing sources in the presidential administration.
According to the TV channel, during consultations with political parties, Dan is expected to propose the creation of a parliamentary majority and the formation of a government led by a technocrat.
Delia Velculescu worked at the International Monetary Fund for over 20 years and is considered an experienced expert in overcoming economic crises.
Since 2008, she has worked in the IMF’s European Department, where she participated in financial programs for Greece, Cyprus, and Iceland. In 2015, she led the fund’s negotiating team during the debt crisis in Greece, where she earned a reputation as a tough and disciplined negotiator.
Velculescu later led the IMF mission in South Africa.
Her candidacy is being considered amid efforts to achieve political and economic stability in Romania.
Romanian President Nicușor Dan has cast doubt on Vladimir Putin’s statements regarding the alleged imminent end of the war in Ukraine.
In Romania, seven ministers from the Social Democratic Party resigned simultaneously following the party’s decision to withdraw its support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
