President Trump rejects Iran’s ceasefire proposal — Jerusalem Post

US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposed seven-day ceasefire plan linked to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Jerusalem Post reports, citing The Wall Street Journal. According to the publication, Trump also expects the US military’s bombing campaign to resume after the midterm elections.

Terms of Iran’s proposal

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in New York during the UN General Assembly that the proposed arrangement includes, among other things, the United States lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports. According to him, the decision on accepting and implementing the seven-day plan depends on the US administration.

Araghchi also said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until the terms of Iran’s plan are fulfilled. He added that Iran will not relinquish its sovereign rights under pressure.

Contacts through intermediaries

A US official said on Friday that the United States is holding positive and constructive discussions with Iran through intermediaries and continues to discuss nuclear issues. At the same time, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran would not show flexibility regarding its nuclear program, even if the United States agrees to the proposed plan.
