President Trump says Canada seeks trade deal — Anadolu Agency
US President Donald Trump said in Washington that Canada wants to conclude a trade deal with the United States, while accusing Ottawa of treating the American side “very unfairly.”
Trump’s statement in the Oval Office
Answering a question in the Oval Office about the possibility of a trade deal with Canada, Trump said the Canadian side is in constant contact with the United States. “They want to make a deal with us. They call us all the time,” he said.
The US president also claimed that Canada had been “one of the worst countries in the whole world” in terms of its treatment of the United States. According to him, the United States can reach agreements and conclude beneficial deals with China, while negotiations with Canada are difficult, as he said.

Tariffs and import restrictions
Trump said that Canada had allegedly imposed tariffs of 400% and higher on American farmers. He also accused the Canadian side of taking advantage in its relations with the United States.
As Anadolu Agency reports, after trade negotiations collapsed in August, Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Canadian goods worth approximately $20 billion. Canada responded with reciprocal tariffs on September 8. Later, the United States announced a complete ban on imports of certain Canadian goods, including motorcycles and whiskey, which is due to take effect on September 29.
