Turkish President Erdoğan commemorates Azerbaijani soldiers — Anadolu Agency

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on September 27 commemorated Azerbaijani servicemen who were killed during the fighting over Karabakh. He published the statement on the Turkish social platform NSosyal on the occasion of Remembrance Day in Azerbaijan.

Erdoğan’s statement

The Turkish president paid tribute to the fallen servicemen who, according to him, fought for the liberation of Karabakh, as well as to veterans. He called Azerbaijan a country friendly and brotherly to Türkiye.

Erdoğan also reiterated his position on Karabakh’s status, stating that this territory belongs to Azerbaijan and will remain Azerbaijani.

Conflict context

Karabakh, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, was the center of a long-running conflict between two South Caucasus states after the collapse of the USSR. In 2023, Azerbaijan restored full control over the region following a military operation. The Turkish president’s statement was reported by Anadolu Agency.
