Putin may visit Beijing after Trump and Xi meet — SCMP

Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is planning a one-day visit to Beijing on May 20.

This was reported by the South China Morning Post, citing sources.

The trip may take place immediately after the summit between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump. This is expected to be a brief working visit by the Russian president to the Chinese capital.

According to the publication, Putin’s trip will last only one day and is viewed as a “routine part” of relations between Moscow and Beijing. Sources note that the visit is unlikely to be accompanied by large-scale ceremonies or military parades.

The Kremlin has not yet officially confirmed the date of the trip, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry has declined to comment.

This is expected to be Putin’s first foreign trip in 2026, further underscoring the strategic rapprochement between Russia and China amid their confrontation with the West.

Trump invited Xi Jinping to visitthe U.S. in September.

As a reminder, Trump arrivedin China for the first time in nearly a decade.

Donald Trump is heading to China for talks with Xi Jinping, where the two sides plan to discuss trade, energy, and Taiwan, against the backdrop of a tense global situation.
