Riots broke out in the Libyan capital of Tripoli following a soccer match, escalating into arson. The fans’ anger was sparked by the referee’s decision not to award a penalty during the game. As a result of the protests, enraged fans attacked and set fire to the office of the Libyan prime minister.
This was reported by Xinhua News Agency, citing sources.
It is noted that the riots began at the Tarhuna Stadium after the soccer referee decided not to award a penalty kick against one of the teams.
Shortly after the clashes at the stadium, the crowd spilled onto the streets, where some fans reached the prime minister’s office and set it on fire.
The Libyan government has not yet commented on the incident.
