A new species of giant dinosaur has been discovered in Thailand

In Thailand, a team of scientists from Thailand and the United Kingdom has discovered a new species of giant dinosaur. The discovery was made during research conducted in the Asian country, which may help shed light on the diversity of the region’s prehistoric fauna.

This was reported by the BBC.

The dinosaur’s full name is Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis.

It is noted that this dinosaur, the largest ever found in Southeast Asia, weighed 27 tons—the same as nine adult Asian elephants.

In addition, it was 27 meters long, which is longer than a Diplodocus. Like that dinosaur, it belonged to the sauropod family—long-necked herbivores.

Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis lived between 100 and 120 million years ago—about 40 million years earlier than Tyrannosaurus rex—and was roughly twice as large as the latter.

A team of researchers from the United Kingdom and Thailand identified the new dinosaur species based on fossils found near a pond in the northeastern part of the Asian country ten years ago.

According to them, this discovery sheds light on how changes in ancient climatic conditions contributed to the development of giant dinosaurs.

Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis roamed the Earth when carbon dioxide levels in the planet’s atmosphere were rising amid high global temperatures.

According to the scientists, “it is likely that high temperatures affected the plant food that was essential for sauropods, which were very large herbivores.”

Remains of a giant dinosaur were discovered in Argentina.

Dinosaursweren’t exactly like lizards: scientists have revealed what their skin was like.

As a reminder, the oldest wooden tools were found in Greece.

Also, during excavations, archaeologists found artifacts from the time of Kievan Rus.
