Putin called North Korea a strategic partner of Russia

Vladimir Putin stated that Russia and North Korea are ready to continue working together on the international stage. In his congratulatory message to Kim Jong-un, he described their shared goal as building a “more just and truly democratic” world order.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the 81st anniversary of the country’s liberation from Japanese occupation. In his message, he specifically highlighted the close relations between Moscow and Pyongyang. Putin stated that Russia is ready to continue working together with North Korea on both bilateral and international issues. “I am confident that we will continue our constructive cooperation on bilateral and international issues for the benefit of the Russian and Korean peoples, as well as to establish a more just and truly democratic world order,” he wrote.

In this way, the Kremlin has once again publicly emphasized the close ties between Russia and North Korea. Both countries have significantly strengthened their political and military cooperation in recent years. Putin also stated that the level of cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang is currently very high. According to him, a “comprehensive strategic partnership” has formed between the countries. “Today, ties between Moscow and Pyongyang have been elevated to an unprecedentedly high level of comprehensive strategic partnership. Our countries are actively cooperating in all areas and coordinating their efforts to ensure regional security and stability,” the Russian dictator noted.

According to Putin, Moscow is satisfied with the policies pursued by the ruling regimes of Russia and North Korea. He also claimed that the two countries share a common interest in regional security. At the same time, the Kremlin’s statements about a “democratic world order” come against the backdrop of close cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Pyongyang supports Moscow in the war against Ukraine, and the two countries have a treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership.

In their public statements, Moscow and Pyongyang regularly emphasize their shared opposition to Western countries and their desire to change the current system of international relations. Putin’s congratulatory message to Kim Jong-un served as yet another public signal that the Kremlin views North Korea as an important political and strategic partner, according to KCNA.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung called on North Korea to come to the negotiating table and agree to end the war between the two countries. He also proposed discussing ways to halt Pyongyang’s nuclear program and pledged to work toward the peaceful coexistence of the two Koreas.
