UN Security Council in New York adopts statement on 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks
In New York, United States, the UN Security Council on September 11, 2026, adopted a presidential statement on countering terrorism — the first such statement in five years. The meeting of the 15-member body was held for the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, The Hindu International reports.

US Permanent Representative to the UN Michael Waltz said during a briefing that the United States tracked down Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. He spoke at the Security Council meeting titled “Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.”

Anniversary of the attacks
The briefing took place on the day of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. In 2001, Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked planes and directed them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center.
