Putin's approval rating plummeted by 2.1 points in a week

Vladimir Putin’s approval rating as president of the Russian Federation fell by 2.1 percentage points over the past week—to 68%. These figures were released by the Russian VTsIOM based on the results of a poll conducted September 14–20.

 

According to the survey, 70.1% of respondents approved of Putin’s performance a week earlier. At the same time, the share of those who disapprove of the president’s performance rose from 18.8% to 21%, an increase of 2.2 percentage points.

The level of trust in Putin changed less significantly—from 74.2% to 73.6%. The share of respondents who said they do not trust him rose by 1.1 percentage points—to 21.6%.

The share of Russians who view the Russian government’s performance positively also fell by 2.2 percentage points—from 48.3% to 46.1%.

VTsIOM previously recorded the largest drop in Putin’s approval rating this summer during the week of June 22–28. At that time, the rating fell by 3.5 percentage points—from 70.4% to 66.9%.

The September 14–20 poll covered the period of the Russian State Duma elections, which took place September 18–20. The survey results were released after voting had concluded.

Earlier, journalists revealed the name of Putin’s granddaughter, who had been kept hidden from the public for years.

Putin’s relatives took over the stages at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) and overshadowed the billionaires.
