Russia and North Korea are seeking to establish a new world order, says Lavrov

Russia and North Korea are seeking to establish a new world order, says Lavrov

Russia and North Korea are jointly advocating for the creation of the so-called “new world order, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

According to Lavrov, Moscow and Pyongyang are allegedly jointly advocating for multipolarity and the consideration of national interests.

“Today, Moscow and Pyongyang stand united in advocating for the creation of a new, just world order based on the principles of multipolarity, genuine equality, and respect for national interests,” his statement reads.

The Russian foreign minister also recalled the cooperation between the USSR and Korean patriots in 1945, calling it the foundation for “traditions of comrades-in-arms.”

At the same time, Lavrov stated that these traditions were allegedly demonstrated during a joint operation to “expel the Armed Forces of Ukraine and foreign mercenaries” from the Kursk region.

According to him, Russia intends to continue deepening its cooperation with North Korea. Lavrov claims that this allegedly serves the interests of both countries and “ensures regional and international security.”

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moscow and Pyongyang have significantly stepped up their military cooperation.

According to South Korean military intelligence, North Korea has transferred more than 12 million artillery rounds to Russia and deployed approximately 13,000 troops to the Kursk region. Intelligence estimates indicate that approximately 2,300 North Korean soldiers have been killed.

According to Bloomberg Economics’ calculations, since 2022, North Korea may have received about $14.02 billion in military aid from Russia, including $849 million in exchange for sending troops.

Cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang continues. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that North Korea could send a force of 30,000 to 50,000 troops to Russia.

Earlier, Ukrainian intelligence also reported on North Korea’s plans to send a missile unit—comprising six launchers and about 120 missiles—to the Voronezh region.

In addition, officials in Kyiv stated that in 2026, North Korea transferred approximately 40 short-range KN-23 and KN-24 ballistic missiles to Russia. In late July, Zelenskyy reported that these missiles are already being used by Russian forces to strike Ukraine.

Thus, Lavrov’s statements about a “new world order” came against the backdrop of a deepening military partnership between Russia and North Korea, which includes the supply of ammunition and missiles, as well as the involvement of North Korean military personnel in the war against Ukraine.

He wrote about this on Telegram in a congratulatory message to DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui on the occasion of Korea’s Liberation Day from Japanese invaders.

As a reminder, Russia may use North Korean military personnel to replace its own units in regions bordering Ukraine. This would allow the Kremlin to free up Russian troops and redeploy them to the most active sections of the front.
