Rosatom has halted construction of a nuclear power plant in India, while Russian businesses' debts have risen to 9 trillion rubles
Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service reported that the Russian state-owned corporation “Rosatom” was unable to complete the construction of a nuclear power plant in India by the set deadline.
The intelligence service considers this to be one of the signs of the deteriorating economic situation in Russia.
According to the SVR, as of the end of May 2026, the overdue receivables of Russian companies had risen to 9 trillion rubles. The agency also drew attention to a statement by Sberbank regarding a likely tax increase in Russia as early as 2027.
In addition, the intelligence agency reported that during the first five months of 2026, Russians’ spending on funeral services rose by 9.6%. Furthermore, the Russian national hockey team will not participate in the 2027 World Championship, as the IIHF has extended its suspension from international tournaments.

The U.S. has not yet been able to completely phase out Russian enriched uranium, which is used as fuel for nuclear power plants. Despite plans to halt such purchases by 2028, the U.S. energy sector still relies heavily on supplies from Russia. According to Bloomberg, Russian uranium enrichment services accounted for about a quarter of all such purchases by U.S. nuclear power plant operators in 2025.
Hungary is preparing to shut down all four power units at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant due to record-low water levels in the Danube. According to the energy company MVM, this could happen within the next 24–72 hours.
