The investigation into the case involving the British king's brother could take more than a year

In the UK, the investigation into King Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s younger brother and former ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, could drag on for more than a year due to the complexity of the case and its international nature. Authorities are making it clear: quick results shouldn’t be expected, even given the public outcry.

The high-profile investigation in the UK, which involves two prominent figures—Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the king’s younger brother, and former Ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson—is moving slowly and, according to officials, could take well over a year, as the case has a complex international structure and a large volume of materials to review.

According to British prosecutors, the individuals involved in the investigation were detained separately in February after millions of documents related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes, were released in the U.S., and although no formal charges have been filed against either of them, both insist on their innocence and acknowledge only that they knew Epstein.

British Attorney General Stephen Parkinson emphasized that the process cannot be artificially expedited, as the volume of evidence and the international connections of the case require thorough examination, and added: “It would be wrong to focus on a single case or a single operation. I really don’t think anyone should expect a quick conclusion to the investigation.”

According to him, even by optimistic estimates, the case could remain open for over a year, and this is not due to a lack of urgency, but solely to the complexity of the materials and the need to coordinate with foreign authorities. This was reported by Reuters.

Former British civil servants have alleged that the brother of the King of Great Britain, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, used taxpayer funds to pay for personal expenses—including massages and expensive trips—while serving as a trade representative.

As a reminder, Prince Andrew was detained in connection with a case of official misconduct.

Scotland has also reacted to the arrest of former Prince Andrew.
