The U.S. imposed sanctions on a second Russian bank over its ties to Iran
The U.S. has added VTB, Russia’s second-largest bank, to its sanctions lists related to Iran. U.S. Secretary of State Scott Bessent warned of consequences for any support of the Iranian regime.
“Today, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury designated a major Russian financial institution, VTB, for its role in circumventing sanctions against Iran,” the U.S. department said.
The press release also included a comment from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who promised that the department “will continue to take action against those who provide material, technological, or financial support to the Iranian regime.”

The U.S. will impose sanctions against a major bank on Monday.
