Cargo vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz falls below 10-day average
The number of cargo vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to fewer than 10 per day, significantly below the average of 14 vessels over the previous 10 days. Asharq Al-Awsat reported this, citing preliminary vessel-tracking data.
Vessel traffic through the strait
On Saturday and Sunday, four vessels left the Persian Gulf through the strait. They included an unladen Handysize vessel, a Handy-class liquefied petroleum gas carrier, a Supramax carrying fertilizers, and a Suezmax tanker carrying oil or condensate.
Ten vessels entered the gulf over those two days. Data cited by Reuters recorded, in particular, a small bulker carrying minor bulk cargoes, a Handymax carrying grain, a Panamax carrying metals, and a Supramax carrying dry bulk cargoes.
The statistics do not include vessels that may have crossed the strait with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders switched off to avoid detection.

Report of a strike on a vessel
On Sunday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz had been struck by an unknown projectile. The agency stated that information on the crew's condition, the extent of the damage, and the environmental impact was unavailable at that time.
Before the start of the war with Iran on February 28, approximately 125 large commercial vessels, including tankers, gas carriers, bulk carriers, and container ships, passed through the strait every day. According to the publication, this route accounted for about 20% of global daily supplies of crude oil and liquefied natural gas.
The publication also notes that Iranian crude oil exports stopped after the United States reimposed a blockade on shipping linked to Iran in mid-July.
Separately, 24 cargo vessels passed through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Saturday and 27 on Sunday. This roughly corresponds to the average of 27 vessels over the past 10 days.
