Romania summoned the Russian ambassador over a drone strike on a residential building
Bucharest has responded to the incident involving a Russian drone. The Russian ambassador was summoned to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after a drone crashed into a high-rise building in Galați. The Romanian side lodged a protest over the incident.
This was reported by Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Cioiu on social media.
“We summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Romania’s security is our absolute priority,” wrote the head of the foreign ministry.
In addition, on Friday morning, the President of Romania convened a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense.
“This incident is a serious and irresponsible escalation on the part of the Russian Federation. Romania will take the necessary diplomatic measures in response to this serious violation of international law and its airspace,” the minister emphasized.
Tsoiu noted that Romania has informed European member states, allies, and the NATO Secretary General of the circumstances and requested that measures be taken to expedite the transfer of anti-drone capabilities to Romania.
“The Russian Federation bears direct responsibility for these serious and irresponsible actions. Romania will act with the utmost determination to increase international pressure on Russia to achieve an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire,” the foreign minister stressed.
According to her, Romania will officially announce the consequences that this irresponsibility on the part of the Russian Federation will have for diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as the next steps at the European level regarding sanctions packages.

During the Russian strike on the Odesa region on April 25, Russian drones were moving along the border with Romania. British aircraft patrolling Romanian airspace tracked their routes. Later, drone debris was found in border areas of Romania.
