Saudi Arabia expels Iran's military attaché — Reuters
The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially declared Iran’s military attaché, his assistant, and three embassy staff members personae non grata.
The diplomats were ordered to leave the kingdom within 24 hours. This drastic decision was a response to the Iranian forces’ continuous attacks on the country’s sovereignty.
According to Reuters, Riyadh accuses Tehran of systematically violating international law and the principles of good neighborliness.
According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the expulsion was prompted by numerous attacks on the kingdom’s civilian infrastructure and economic facilities.
Since the start of the large-scale armed conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran in late February 2026, Saudi Arabia has been hit by hundreds of missiles and drones.
Although the vast majority of hostile targets were intercepted by air defense forces, the intensity of the attacks continues to grow.
Official Riyadh emphasized that Iran’s continued disregard for security norms will lead to irreversible consequences for bilateral relations.
“The continuation of Iranian attacks will lead to further escalation and have serious consequences for current and future relations,” the ministry’s statement reads.
It is worth noting that in 2023, the countries restored diplomatic ties through Chinese mediation after a long period of hostility.
However, the events of March 2026 effectively nullified all previous efforts toward de-escalation in the Persian Gulf region.
As a reminder, Saudi Arabia shot down seven drones within a few hours.
Oil prices also rose following Iran’s attacks on energy facilities in the Middle East.
