Democratic senators criticized Trump for easing sanctions on Russian oil

In the United States, leading Democratic senators have criticized President Donald Trump’s administration over its decision to ease sanctions on Russian oil.

This was reported by The Guardian.

In a joint statement, Senators Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren, and Jean Shaheen called this move a “180-degree turn” and “shameful,” criticizing the White House’s policy.

“This week, Putin carried out the largest airstrike on Ukraine to date, killing 18 people, and the administration’s response is to once again ease sanctions against the Kremlin. What message does this send?” the statement reads.

The senators also emphasized that, in their view, it is the Russian leadership that has benefited from the geopolitical situation surrounding the war in Iran.

“President Trump must stop letting Putin play him like a fool and impose additional sanctions against Putin, who clearly does not feel enough pressure from this president,” they stressed.

Prior to this, several Asian countries urged the United States not to reinstate strict sanctions on Russian oil. The focus is on maintaining a special exemption that allows purchases to continue. The spotlight is on energy security and the oil market, where any changes can quickly affect prices.

Kallas stated that security in the Strait of Hormuz must be a shared responsibility.
