Switzerland may abandon the Patriot system due to delivery delays — Reuters
Switzerland has suspended payments to the U.S. for Patriot air defense systems due to uncertainty regarding delivery dates.
This was reported by Reuters.
The country’s government has not ruled out the possibility that the contract could be canceled altogether.
Defense Minister Martin Pfister stated that consultations with the U.S. regarding next steps are currently underway.
According to him, all options are being considered, including canceling the deal.
At the same time, Switzerland has not yet abandoned its procurement plans but is awaiting clear guarantees regarding the timeline.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Patriot system, Bern has also postponed payment for the F-35A fighter jets.
A final decision on next steps is expected by the end of June.
On Friday, March 20, the Swiss government announced that it would not issue licenses to companies for the export of weapons to the United States in connection with the attacks on Iran, citing the country’s principle of neutrality.
