Sweden has arrested the new captain of the Russian shadow fleet tanker Sea Owl I

The Swedish Coast Guard discovered forged documents during a re-inspection of the detained Russian vessel Sea Owl I. The vessel’s new captain, a Georgian citizen, attempted to present the forged documents, prompting Swedish authorities to arrest him on the spot. The first captain was also detained on charges of forgery.

This was reported by Swedish OSINT researcher Auonsson.

The Russian shadow fleet vessel was first detained by representatives of the European country on March 13. Recently, the owner managed to send a new crew leader on board, as well as change the registration documents and hoist the genuine national flag. However, another detailed inspection by regulatory authorities revealed that the entire set of submitted documentation had been forged.

The tanker itself remains under arrest in Swedish territorial waters and is prohibited from leaving port. Control measures targeting vessels that help Russia circumvent international sanctions remain strict. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation to identify the actual beneficiaries and organizers of this logistics scheme.

In Sweden, the captain of the detained oil tanker Jin Hui, which may be linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” has been arrested. The Chinese national is suspected of using forged documents and violating maritime regulations regarding the vessel’s seaworthiness.

Earlier, Swedish police officially arrested the vessel Caffa, which had been held in the country’s territorial waters for two months.
