Sweden has declassified documents regarding the incident involving a Soviet submarine

Sweden has released previously classified documents regarding the 1981 incident involving the Soviet submarine S-363, which ran aground near the Swedish coast with nuclear torpedoes on board.

This was reported by SVT.

According to the released materials, the incident, which was previously interpreted as a possible deliberate incursion by the USSR into Swedish territorial waters, may have been the result of serious navigational errors by the crew.

Michael Fredholm, a former employee of Swedish electronic intelligence who analyzed the documents, stated that the Swedish authorities’ reaction at the time could have escalated the confrontation, even though there were no signs of deliberate provocation.

The Soviet submarine ran aground near the Karlskrona naval base in October 1981 and remained there for ten days under the control of the Swedish military, after which it was released.

Sweden provided Ukraine with equipment for military airfields.

Sweden is launching a massive review of permanent residence permits.
