Slovakia plans to increase ammunition supplies to Ukraine — TERAZ

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that the country is ramping up ammunition production and is already among the key suppliers within NATO. According to him, the volume of military aid to Ukraine will continue to grow.

This was reported by TERAZ.SK.

As Pellegrini noted, this involves the commercial production and export of weapons carried out by Slovakia’s defense companies. He also pointed out that Bratislava is already supplying Ukraine with ammunition “in the millions.”

Regarding Slovakia, the president stated that the country is actively investing in its own defense industry, which currently accounts for nearly 3% of the country’s GDP. This includes, in particular, the production of interceptor drones, which are being developed in cooperation with local defense companies and aircraft repair plants.

Speaking about the Alliance, Pellegrini acknowledged that NATO is facing a shortage of defense production capacity. He noted that even with significant financial resources, it is difficult to rapidly ramp up arms production due to a lack of enterprises and production lines.

The publication recalls how, after coming to power in 2023, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that his government would not transfer weapons from state reserves to Ukraine. He also opposed new military aid packages for Kyiv and criticized EU sanctions against Russia.

However, the restrictions did not apply to private defense companies. It was these companies that continued to actively produce and sell artillery shells, howitzers, and other weapons to Ukraine.

According to media reports, in 2024, Slovak arms exports rose to 1.15 billion euros. This is nearly double the figure from the previous year and approximately ten times higher than the levels prior to the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

In addition, in October 2025, Bratislava announced a new support package for Ukraine. It included engineering and mine-clearance assistance, as well as expanded cooperation between the defense industries of the two countries.

At the time, Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák stated that the country had increased its production of artillery ammunition 15-fold since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

As is well known, relations between Ukraine and Slovakia have recently been strained due to the pro-Russian government and the stance of Prime Minister Robert Fico himself.

As a reminder, Slovakiahas begun receiving Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline.

According toAktuality, preliminary information indicates that the Ukrainian side was to provide this plan to the Slovak oil transporter "Transpetrol" on Wednesday, April 22.

As a reminder, Ukrainehas resumed oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline.

Earlier, European Council President António Costa publicly thanked Volodymyr Zelenskyy for restoring the section of the Druzhba pipeline. Ukraine announced the completion of repair work following damage to the infrastructure caused by a Russian strike. The EU described this as the fulfillment of agreements.

The European Commission expects that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will soon officially announce the resumption of oil pumping through Ukraine via the Druzhba pipeline.
