Slovakia Summons Russian Ambassador Following a Russian Drone Strike Near Its Consulate in Kyiv
In Kyiv, a Russian drone attacked the building of the Security Service of Ukraine, which is located next to the consular section of the Slovak Embassy. In response, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár ordered that the Russian ambassador be summoned.
The Slovak Foreign Ministry noted that the consulate building is currently being used on a limited basis for security reasons. Therefore, no one was inside the building during the Russian attack.
Juraj Blanár condemned Russia’s actions and called on Moscow to refrain from steps that could pose a threat to the civilian population.
At the same time, the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry appealed to both Russia and Ukraine to avoid escalation, which, in his view, could hinder a peaceful resolution of the war.
Following the attack, Blanár ordered that the Russian ambassador to Slovakia be summoned to provide an explanation for the strike.
This reaction from official Bratislava is unusually sharp, as Slovak authorities have recently tended to comment on Russian attacks on Ukraine in a rather restrained manner.
The incident in Kyiv prompted a diplomatic demarche by Slovakia amid the ongoing war and Russian strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
