Britain's allies have imposed sanctions over the violence in the West Bank

The United Kingdom, together with France, Norway, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, has announced a new package of sanctions. The restrictions target individuals and networks linked to the financing, support, and commission of violent acts in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

According to the participating countries, the sanctions aim to hold those responsible for the escalation of violence in the region accountable and to deter further unlawful actions.

The United Kingdom is imposing sanctions against six organizations and one individual involved in financing, facilitating, and carrying out violence by settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Individuals included on the sanctions list face asset freezes and, if necessary, travel bans and disqualification from holding leadership positions.

The British government stated that the continued illegal expansion of settlements undermines the viability of the two-state solution. They added that the record levels of settler violence are “deliberately aimed at destroying Palestinian homes and livelihoods in the West Bank.”

The UK also reiterated its call on the Israeli government to halt settlement expansion, curb settler violence, hold perpetrators accountable, and lift existing restrictions on the Palestinian economy.

France, meanwhile, announced a travel ban on Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who actively promotes the idea of annexing the West Bank. In addition, the sanctions target four other leaders of settler organizations and 21 settlers, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said.
