Russian intelligence agencies were planning an assassination attempt on a German supplier of drones to Ukraine

The German publication *Der Spiegel* has released new details regarding the investigation into two agents detained on suspicion of spying for Russian military intelligence (GRU).

According to the investigation, Ukrainian citizen Serhiy N. and Romanian citizen Alla S. were tasked by Moscow with surveilling a Bavarian entrepreneur who supplies drones and components to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Law enforcement officials suspect that gathering information and filming the sites were part of preparations to assassinate the businessman.

Key evidence in the case came from data on Serhiy N.’s cell phone, where chats with a handler from Russia were discovered. It was established that the 34-year-old native of Kharkiv, who arrived in Germany as a refugee, was recruited by the GRU via Telegram. After he was first detained by police in December 2025 while filming locations, he left for Spain. At that point, Russian intelligence services brought Alla S. into the operation, who was likely not acquainted with the first agent.

Currently, the suspects are in custody or under supervision:

  • Alla S. is being held in a pretrial detention center in Germany;

  • Sergey N. has been detained in Spain and is awaiting extradition to Germany under a travel ban.

This incident serves as yet another confirmation of the increased activity of Russian sabotage groups in Europe aimed at disrupting military aid to Ukraine. German authorities have stepped up security measures for executives of defense companies and logistics hubs. Official Berlin emphasizes that punishment for Kremlin agents is inevitable and continues close cooperation with European partners to uncover Russian spy networks. Against this backdrop, discussions on the security of arms supplies have become one of the key issues in relations between Ukraine and the EU.
