Nord Stream case: arrested Ukrainian in Italy ends hunger strike
Serhiy Kuznetsov, a Ukrainian suspected of involvement in the bombing of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, has been released from his hunger strike. He stopped the protest after receiving guarantees that his diet would meet his medical needs. Kuznetsov has been diagnosed with pancreatitis and celiac disease, and needs to follow a vegan diet. Kuznetsov's lawyer noted that his client had been refusing to eat since October 31 due to an inadequate diet.

Since his arrest on August 22, 2025, Kuznetsov has been held in a maximum security prison in Italy. On October 27, an Italian court ruled to extradite him to Germany, where the Ukrainian is accused of jointly carrying out explosions on gas pipelines in September 2022. This decision opens the possibility of Kuznetsov being questioned by German prosecutors in the case.
Next, the lawyer plans to appeal the decision to extradite Kuznetsov, as his detention and conditions of detention have raised significant concerns due to tensions between the two countries. This case has become important not only for Kuznetsov, but also for international relations and security in the region, as it has relevant implications for Europe's energy policy.
