OpenAI CEO Sam Altman does not expect an AI-driven jobs apocalypse
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on May 26 during a virtual appearance at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia conference in Sydney, Australia, that the rapid development and adoption of artificial intelligence are unlikely to lead to a global “jobs apocalypse.”
Impact on employment
Altman noted that AI has not yet displaced as many jobs among office workers as he had previously feared. According to him, he was initially concerned about the technology’s potential impact on the overall level of employment worldwide.

The OpenAI chief also said that he and the company’s executives generally assessed technological development correctly after the launch of ChatGPT in 2022. At the same time, in his assessment, they were mistaken about the social and economic consequences of this technology.

As The Hindu International reports, an increasing number of international companies, including HSBC, Amazon, Standard Chartered and Commonwealth Bank of Australia, have stated that artificial intelligence is replacing some jobs within their structures.
