The U.S. is preparing to seize the Iranian island of Khark in order to stabilize oil exports
The United States is considering a military operation to take control of the island of Khark, a key hub for Iranian oil exports.
This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
Such a move is aimed at ending the blockade of shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
High-ranking U.S. officials have already informed their counterparts in Israel and other partner countries of the seriousness of their intentions.
According to them, Washington “may have no other choice” but to take control of the island.
The island of Khark is critical to Tehran’s economy, as more than 90% of the country’s total oil exports pass through it. Blocking this facility could be a decisive factor in putting pressure on the Iranian regime.
The U.S. military command has already accelerated the deployment of additional units to the Middle East.
This involves several thousand Marines and Navy personnel for a potential ground operation.
According to NBC and Newsmax, the Pentagon has decided to deploy an additional 8,000 troops to the region.
Of this number, up to 5,000 are Marine Corps units trained to operate in amphibious landing conditions.
The military contingent will arrive at its destination along with the heavy combat equipment necessary to conduct an amphibious operation.
Three large amphibious ships are being used for transport: the USS Boxer, the USS Portland, and the USS Comstock.
As a reminder, Iran has promised to attack U.S. oil facilities.
Iran is also threatening to destroy critical U.S. infrastructure in response to the strikes.
