US delivers military equipment to Nigeria to fight terrorism — Premium Times Nigeria
The United States has delivered military equipment to Nigeria, sold as part of the countries’ bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism. The cargo was delivered over the weekend by a U.S. Air Force C-17 military transport aircraft.
The delivery was announced by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). As Premium Times Nigeria reports, AFRICOM did not specify the types of equipment transferred or its value.
Military sales agreement
The command said the equipment was transferred under a foreign military sales agreement. According to AFRICOM, the delivery is intended to strengthen the U.S.-Nigeria partnership and help Nigerian authorities counter terrorism in the region.

The publication notes that it is not known for certain whether this delivery is part of the $346 million arms sales package approved by the U.S. Department of State in August 2025. That package included ammunition, precision-guided bombs, precision-guided missiles and other weapons. At the time, the United States said it would help Nigeria combat terrorism and illegal arms trafficking.
Previous contracts and cooperation
In 2017–2022, the United States also approved the sale to Nigeria of 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft worth approximately $593 million and 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters valued at $997 million. Some of this equipment has already been delivered, while some has not yet arrived in the country.
The current delivery came amid increased security cooperation between Washington and Abuja, which, according to the publication, included joint counterterrorism operations, intelligence sharing and military training. Following diplomatic disputes, the sides concluded a bilateral agreement under which the United States deployed about 200 service members to Nigeria for training, intelligence and operational support.
