Pakistan forecasts new wave of monsoon rains on September 12–17
Pakistan’s Meteorological Department forecasts a new spell of monsoon rains in the country’s upper regions from September 12 to 17. During this period, air temperatures are expected to decrease, Dawn reports.
According to the meteorological service, monsoon air currents are already penetrating Pakistan’s upper regions. A western weather system is also expected to reach these areas over the weekend and is forecast to intensify on September 14.
Rain in the north and Punjab
Rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected in Kashmir from September 12 to 17, with hail in some places. The same weather is forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock.
From the evening of September 12, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and wind is possible in a number of cities in Punjab province, including Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan. Intermittent precipitation is expected.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, rain is forecast in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Mardan, Nowshera, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Bannu, Waziristan and other areas. Thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall are possible in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza and Gilgit.
Flooding and landslide warning
The Meteorological Department warned of a risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Lahore from September 14 to 17.
The agency also does not rule out flash floods in local streams and watercourses in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Landslides are possible in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir. Tourists and travelers were advised to be cautious, while farmers were advised to plan agricultural work in view of the forecast.
Hot and humid weather will prevail in Sindh, but from the evening of September 13 through September 16, rain and thunderstorms, heavy in places, are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Karachi and surrounding areas. Precipitation is forecast in Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel in Balochistan.
