The U.S. aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush has arrived in the Middle East, becoming the third such vessel in the region. This marks the largest increase in the U.S. aircraft carrier presence there in the past two decades.
CNN reports this.
U.S. Central Command, which coordinates all U.S. military operations in the Middle East, announced the arrival of the third aircraft carrier in the region, the Nimitz-class USS George H.W. Bush.
The George H.W. Bush is the newest U.S. aircraft carrier of its class. It can carry up to 80 aircraft and has a crew of over 5,500 (sailors and aircrew).
Specific plans regarding the aircraft carrier’s stay and location have not been disclosed.
It is noted that such a large-scale presence of U.S. aircraft carriers in the region is the largest in over 20 years.
The redeployment of the aircraft carrier is clearly intended as another signal to Tehran amid the Trump administration’s attempts to force the Iranian leadership to make the desired concessions.
