Important news awaits Ukraine at the NATO summit in Ankara — Matthew Whitaker
During the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, scheduled for July 7–8, a number of important decisions are expected regarding support for Ukraine, particularly within the framework of the U.S. PURL initiative to procure weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This was reported by European Truth, citing a statement by U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker in Brussels. The ambassador predicted significant news for Ukraine and expressed confidence that each of the allies would step up its efforts.
Whitaker highlighted Washington’s significant financial and military contributions, noting that through the PURL program, the U.S. has already sold more than $6 billion worth of modern U.S.-made defense systems to NATO partners, including PAC-3 anti-aircraft missiles for the Patriot systems, which were subsequently transferred to Ukraine. At the same time, the diplomat emphasized that the U.S. expects its European allies to show greater initiative and a willingness to shoulder the main financial and material burden of the war on the European continent. Despite this, the United States reaffirms its unwavering position and plans to continue providing comprehensive support to Ukraine alongside its allies in the alliance.
