US delays ban on Chinese drones amid national security concerns

The US Department of Commerce has withdrawn its plan to impose restrictions on Chinese drones due to national security issues. This decision follows the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) ban in December on the import of new drones and parts from all foreign manufacturers, including Chinese companies DJI and Autel.

The vast majority of commercial drones sold in the US are imported from China, with over half of these coming from DJI, the world’s largest drone manufacturer. Experts believe that the postponement of restrictions is linked to the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to China in April.

It is expected that the decision on restrictions may be revisited after diplomatic talks, but for now, US authorities are taking a cautious approach to preserve strategic dialogue with China.
