The U.S. has removed seven Russian citizens and two dry cargo ships from its sanctions list
On June 24, the United States decided to remove seven Russian citizens and two dry cargo ships from its sanctions list.
Among them are Ivan Potanin, the son of billionaire Vladimir Potanin and one of the key owners of Norilsk Nickel, Mikhail Klyukin, a member of Sovcombank’s supervisory board, and Maxim Smirnov, as well as the dry cargo ships “Vyacheslav Arshinov” and “Gennady Yegorov.”
German Bilous, Irina Kremenyeva, Viktor Nikolaev, and Nadezhda Cherkasova have also been removed from the sanctions list. Earlier, the U.S. had already lifted restrictions on a number of former executives and members of the supervisory bodies of the “Vydritie” financial group, explaining this by the termination of their official duties at the company, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.
Earlier, the EU extended economic sanctions against Russia for a full year for the first time.
As a reminder, at a summit in Brussels on June 18, the European Union decided to extend sanctions against Russia for the first time not for the standard six months, but for a full year. In doing so, the EU is departing from its previous practice of regularly reviewing sanctions every six months.
The EU Council is expected to officially approve the new sanctions package in the coming weeks, according to Deutsche Welle.
