The United States has announced the start of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. A statement issued in the form of a stern warning states that any vessels approaching the blockade zone will allegedly be immediately destroyed.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that 158 Iranian ships have already been completely destroyed.
“Iran’s naval forces lie at the bottom of the sea, completely destroyed—158 ships. We did not strike even a small number of their so-called ‘high-speed attack boats’ because we did not consider them a serious threat. Warning: if any of these ships approach our blockade, it will be immediately destroyed using the same destruction system we use against drug traffickers on boats at sea. It’s fast and brutal. P.S. 98.2% of the drugs coming into the U.S. by sea have stopped!” Trump wrote.
Also, the UK plans to hold a new round of talks with allies regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains a key route for global energy. Representatives from dozens of countries will take part in the meeting, though the level of delegations will be lower than before.
Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran have begun to move forward. Tehran stated that Washington has allegedly agreed to unfreeze some of Iran’s assets, but there has been no official confirmation from the American side yet.
Iran is unable to quickly restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz due to the problem of minefields in the waterway and the lack of technical means to completely clear them.
