Starmer may announce his resignation in the near future
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer may soon announce his resignation and present a timeline for the handover of power.
According to the publication, Starmer has held a series of consultations in recent days with government ministers, Downing Street advisers, union representatives, and Labour Party sponsors.
Following these discussions, he reportedly concluded that remaining in office is becoming increasingly difficult.
The prime minister is currently spending the weekend with his wife, Victoria, at Chequers, where he is discussing his political future. Meanwhile, sources within the Labour Party suggest that an official announcement could come as early as Monday.
A Labor Party representative close to the prime minister stated that Starmer does not intend to step down abruptly.
“I think he sees the reality of the situation. It’s now impossible to stop the ‘chaos’ (as he rightly put it) while remaining in office, so there’s only one option left. I think he has come to the conclusion that this is a necessary choice for the good of the country and the party,” the source said.
According to him, in the event of a resignation, there will be a gradual and orderly transition of power to avoid political instability.
At the same time, government sources emphasize that Starmer continues to perform his duties as prime minister and remains focused on his work, and has not yet officially announced a final decision regarding his future.
