Starmer said he has no plans to step down as prime minister despite the pressure — Sky News
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that he has no intention of stepping down amid internal party pressure following the poor results of the local elections.
He made the remarks in comments to reporters, according to Sky News.
According to Starmer, he has no intention of resigning and plans to continue serving as head of government.
“I’ve said, I don’t know how many times, that I’m not going anywhere. I firmly believe that I must serve the people who elected me to this position,” he said.
The British prime minister also noted that he intends to run for re-election in the next general election.
At the same time, Starmer acknowledged that the results of the local elections, as well as the votes in Wales and Scotland, have posed a challenge for his political party.
Despite this, he emphasized that he would not succumb to pressure within the party and would not announce any “timeline for resignation.”
Prior to this, a former British minister had expressed his readiness to replace Starmer.
Earlier, Starmer had noted growing tensions in relations with the United States.
