A New York court has set the trial date for the case against Nicolás Maduro for June 2027
A New York court has set June 1, 2027, as the start date for the trial of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
According to “European Truth,” citing NBC News, on July 22, the Maduros were transported to court from a Brooklyn jail, where they have been held since their capture in Caracas by U.S. special forces.
Judge Alvin Gellersteine set the trial start date. Maduro and his wife face charges of conspiracy to smuggle thousands of metric tons of cocaine into the United States. If found guilty, they face life in prison.
During the hearing, a group of protesters gathered outside the courthouse in downtown Manhattan. They held signs calling for Maduro’s release and described the charges as fabricated.
On the night of January 3, 2026, the U.S. launched a series of strikes against Venezuela. Following this, Maduro accused the United States of military aggression, and the U.S. military captured him and his wife and transported them to New York.
