Sweet Greens opens a restaurant in Karachi with a calorie-counted menu

In Karachi, Pakistan, Sweet Greens has opened a restaurant in the Defence Phase 8 area after several years of operating as a takeaway and delivery service. As Dawn reports, the establishment combines calorie-counted dishes with pizza, pasta, coffee and desserts.

From a festival stand to a restaurant

Sweet Greens debuted at the Karachi Eat food festival in 2019. At the time, the brand gained popularity for its red tacos: their crispy shells were made with corn tortilla and fried chicken.

After the festival, Sweet Greens did not immediately open a permanent establishment and instead operated as a delivery and takeaway service. In particular, it offered weekly meals for people with dietary restrictions. The article notes that the project remained largely unnoticed for nearly seven years.

Dawn also mentions other Karachi establishments with a “healthy” menu — Pesto, Garden Bistro and SaladTox — which later ceased operations. For many years, Evergreen was, in the publication’s assessment, the only restaurant in the city with a menu focused on healthy eating.

The menu at the new establishment

The Sweet Greens restaurant has a breakfast section, healthy bowls and wraps, whole-wheat pizza and a separate pasta section. Menu items include a burrito bowl with beans, grilled chicken, corn, sauces and tortilla chips. The establishment also offers dessert lattes, including an iced latte with a piece of tiramisu, as well as mocha cheesecake, chocolate fondant and blondie.

The review’s author positively noted the roasted garlic soup, pasta with turkey bacon and garlic, and strong coffee without the taste of burnt beans. At the same time, in his opinion, the platter with three dips and chips lacks additional ingredients for a more pronounced taste: tzatziki overpowers the French onion dip and hummus.
